Artist's Statement
Style: Contemporary Artist

My work is inspired by the essence of nature. I exploit the textural qualities, earthly processes and represent as such on the surface of my canvas.
Rather than recreation of reality, I aim to express the
complex spirit and delightful intensity of a landscape
or natural environment. Painting has the power to capture
the atmosphere and ambience of a setting and allows the
viewer to appreciate and develop a new understanding
of our natural world.
A rapid brush of colour represents the emotional explosion that excites us in a special place where we stand overwhelmed – in awe of our surroundings. The processes I use illustrate the fantastic phenomena of the elements of nature – the energy of water, the beauty of textural surfaces, growth, decomposition, disorder, intertwining, drama, complexity and diversity of all objects of creation. My paintings attempt to show the ferocity, beauty and enchantment of the world we live in.
I realise that the viewer may also interpret my use of colour, abstract shapes and textures as visual metaphors for contemporary life.
